A local manufacturer is searching for a Materials Engineer in the Turners Falls area. The engineer will be responsible for insulation compounds used in manufacturers products, maintaining existing and developing new formulations. The engineer will also assist other functional groups within the company to assess material related defects and provide compliance information for customer and industry material regulations.  

Job Duties

  • Maintain existing compound formulations and specifications.
  • Identify alternative ingredients or formulations which may improve quality or cost for evaluation in products.
  • Maintain product compliance certifications for existing products. Become familiar with major compliance regulations affecting products and work with Purchasing to update compliance information as needed.
  • Support new product development for the company by contributing as a member of cross-functional teams working on new products.
  • Identify existing formulations which will satisfy product requirements, or work with external and internal technical experts to identify modified or new formulations to meet product needs and costs.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and other departments concerning material-related product problems. Perform analytical analysis where necessary to determine root cause, and recommend corrective actions for materials or manufacturing process.
  • Assist with tasks and projects assigned by direct manager or senior management.  Coordinate with the Engineering team to share supporting task workload as appropriate.

Qualifications/Desired Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering field with applicable coursework or experience.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of polymer materials and extrusion processing.
  • Effective technical writing skills for internal and external customers
  • Ability to work within or lead cross-functional teams to solve engineering problems.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in the polymer manufacturing, compounding, or wire and cable industries.
  • Knowledge in specifications, standards and product testing protocols for Aerospace wire and cable.
